Student Bursary Program

AIG provides bursaries for both undergraduate and postgraduate students studying at Australian universities. Applicants must be current members of AIG (including Student Members).

The Bursary Program began in 2001 to mark the 20th Anniversary of the Australian Institute of Geoscientists (AIG), and since then the AIG has awarded up to ten bursaries every year. AIG will again offer several bursaries in 2008, each bursary having a value between A$1000 and A$2500. The AIG Bursaries are funded by the AIG and by the generous sponsorship of individuals and organisations.

Tnere are two types of bursary available each year to geoscience students who are AIG Members and are currently engaged in either full or part time studies:

Undergraduate Bursaries are available to honours students and may be used to help offset the costs of completing an honours thesis. Bursaries may be used in any way by recipients.

Postgraduate Bursaries must be used by applicants to undertake an activity that will enhance their postgraduate studies and would otherwise not be possible to undertake without the contribution made by bursary funds (e.g. travel to attend a conference to present research results or work with prominent geoscientists in a particular field).

Named bursaries recognise the contributions of major supporters of the AIG Student Bursary programme.

All bursary recipients are required to submit either a copy of their Honours thesis abstract or a report outlining the results of their funded activity.  Bursary recipients must be current AIG members.  Full time students are eligible for free membership.

AIG sincerely thanks the sponsors of the Student Bursary Programme for their generous support and contribution to geoscience education.
