Magnetotellurics: An Introductory Short Course for Geoscientists

MODULE ONE – Magnetotellurics: An Introductory Short Course for Geoscientists

CET, in conjunction with the Australian Society for Exploration Geophysics, are proud to introduce Senior Professor Alan Jones, the Head of Geophysics from the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies. With over 37 years of research experience, he is acknowledged as one of the world’s leading authorities on the use of natural-source electromagnetic (EM) methods – principally the magnetotelluric (MT) method – to address geoscience problems, from mining-scale targets to tectonics on the scale of cratons. With over a hundred publications in refereed journals he has already made a prolific contribution to international geophysics. Professor Jones has been recognised internationally by his peers being elected to the Royal Irish Academy and Academia Europaea.

This module will be appropriate for those with minimal knowledge of magnetotellurics, with updates from the recently published “The Magnetotelluric Method: Theory and Practice” (Chave and Jones, 2012) Cambridge University Press.

VENUE: Resource Room, Ground Floor, Robert Street Building, University of Western Australia

DATES: 20, 21 & 22(AM) October 2014

Attendees are able to take modules individually or combined. Please indicate the appropriate choice on the registration form. Online registration is available at www.cet.edu.au/education-and-training/short-courses/short-course-on-magnetotellurics or download the flyer and registration form here.
