Apart from a brief foray into mining almost 140 years ago, iron ore has historically been considered a non-starter in the Victorian minerals race. All that is changing, however, as Victorian Iron has begun exploring for detrital iron deposits in Tertiary palaeochannels across the State. With current operations focused east of Shepparton, the company not only faces the challenges of defining a new resource and bringing it to market, but also of introducing a new industry to the local community of the Goulburn Valley.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER

BENJ BEATTY studied at La Trobe University and has worked in exploration and mining across eastern Australia and England before establishing Victorian Iron’s field office in Shepparton. A member of AusIMM and PESGB, Benj would be a member of the AIG but he can’t find his academic transcript.
