Hail Creek Mine is a modern open-cut coal operation currently producing 5.5Mtpa of high quality coking coal for the export market. Located in the Bowen Basin region, employees participate in an attractive 9 day fortnight commute roster out of Mackay. The on site village boasts modern and comfortable facilities, along with various social, sporting and recreation activities. With a strong culture based on diversity and equal employment, the Hail Creek site is characterised by its high performance and strong safety record.

With a current mining reserve of 267.5Mt, and the opportunity to add to this tonnage through improved resource knowledge, the Senior Geologist will play a pivotal role in guiding the future direction of mining at Hail Creek. Reporting directly to the Technical Services Manager, you will have responsibility for both the provision of high quality geological support to operations, as well as overseeing all exploration activities consistent with meeting mine plans. Leading a team of geologists, you will provide coaching, guidance and technical mentoring to best develop your team’s capabilities.

To succeed in this role you will be an enthusiastic safety conscious professional with the ability to lead and motivate a large team. In conjunction with your relevant degree, you will have previous geological experience gained in a mining operation. A background in resource assessment and familiarisation with exploration planning and logistics would be useful, as would practical experience (or a strong desire to learn) in coking coal operations.
