BC Iron Nullagine Pty Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of BC Iron Limited which is an emerging iron ore producer focused on Western Australia's world-class Pilbara region. The Company's core asset is the Nullagine Iron Ore Joint Venture - a direct shipping iron ore deposit operated by BC Iron Nullagine and strategically located close to FMG's Chichester operations. The Joint Venture has a Rail Haulage and Port Services agreement with FMG, which provides the infrastructure required to bring this deposit to market. With funding and offtake secured, BC Iron is on track to become the Pilbara's newest iron ore exporter in 2010. BC Iron is now looking to recruit a Mine Geologist to assist the geology team on site.
Reporting to the Geology Superintendent you will be expected to assist with all geological functions, including logging and drill program design, grade control development and resource modelling as well as effective ore production, scheduling, reporting and documentation. Some geological mapping and sampling will also be required. Additionally, you will be expected to get involved with developing additional resources in conjunction with the resource development team.
Key responsibilities of this role include:
- Meet all safety requirements of the role.
- Coordinate and plan activities of the daily grade control processes
- Manage day to day pit geology functions in conjunction with production and planning
- Develop and maintain industry best practices in grade control processes
- Undertake geology project work as required to improve geological services and information to the mine
- In pit mapping and ore waste delineation
- Near mine exploration and resource definition drill supervision
- Section interpretation and geological modeling
- ROM and stockpile management
- Assist in monitoring reconciliations of grade control data with crusher throughput
- Liaising with site engineers for short and long term production planning
- Assist in reconciling grade control data with model predictions
- Reporting as required
The successful candidate will have the following:
- Recognised tertiary qualification in Geology or related discipline
- 1-3 years of professional experience within the mining industry in a similar role
- Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills
- Current driver's license with 4WD experience
- Legal entitlement to work in Australia on a permanent basis
- Computer literacy with Microsoft Office Suite
- Familiar with geological software packages Minesight, Surpac, or Vulcan
- Familiar with MapInfo, ArcGIS or other GIS packages
- Current Senior First Aid certificate.
