Earth Science Week

EarthScienceWeek_logoEarth Science Week will be celebrated from 11-17 October 2015.

This annual event is an initiative coordinated by the American Geosciences Institute (of which AIG is an affiliate organisation).  Information about Earth Science week and activities being organised around the world are available here.

Geoscience Australia and other Australian geoscience organisations will be will be hosting Australia’s Earth Science Week celebrations and aligning activities with the international theme, “Visualising Earth Systems”.

This year’s event will promote awareness of the many ways scientists monitor and represent information about Earth systems including land, water, air, and living things. Earth Science Week 2015 activities will engage young people and others in exploring ways of visualizing Earth systems, using technologies ranging from on-site data collection to satellite-based remote sensing, as scientists investigate conditions of Earth systems. Today’s geoscientists display their findings in charts, graphs, diagrams, illustrations, photos, videos, computer-generated animations, and 3D-printed creations.

Geoscience Australia is conducting its annual photography competition – Top GeoShot and will announce the winners during Earth Science Week.

The American Geosciences Institute has also developed teaching resources, to bring geoscience education on the week’s theme to classrooms all around the world.

Earth Science Week is an international celebration initiated and hosted by the American Geosciences Institute, promoting the importance of the geosciences to the community.
