NSW AIG BRANCH SEEKS APPLICATIONS FOR FUNDING TO ASSIST LOCAL YOUNG GEOSCIENTISTS TO ATTEND FIELD TRIPS, CONFERENCES AND COURSES

Limited funding is available to provide NSW-based AIG members, who can demonstrate a need for support, with opportunities to participate in professionally organised geological field trips, conferences and courses. This might include young, unemployed or underemployed geoscientists.

Criteria

  • Applicants must hold a recognised degree in geoscience,
  • be a resident of NSW,
  • be a member of the AIG and
  • can demonstrate a need for support. Priority may be given to contract or underemployed geologists who might not otherwise receive support of an employer.

Use of Funds
The award of funding may be used for travel expenses, registration fees for conferences/courses/field trips and related meals and accommodation.

Location
The field trip/short course/conference may be located in Australia or overseas, but should be of recognised relevance to the economic development of natural resources where the participant’s personal safety will not be at risk.

Award Process
Applicants are required to submit a proposal as a pdf document which will be assessed by a selection panel from the NSW AIG Branch committee on an ad hoc basis.

Successful Applicants
The geoscientists who are awarded a grant will sign a simple half page agreement to use the funding for the purposes specified, a waiver indemnifying the AIG for any loss damages or injury sustained as a result of the trip/conference/course and will undertake to write a report of approximately one A4 page length (including photo) for publication by the AIG.
