ALGA: Risk Assessment 101 – Christchurch

This is a two-day workshop in two locations in New Zealand. Attendees have the option to attend Day One or both days*.

Day 1 – RISKY BUSINESS – WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT HUMAN HEALTH RISK ASSESSMENT FOR CONTAMINATED LAND

Are you involved in managing contaminated land? Do you know where guidelines come from, which ones are relevant for your site or whether the guidelines protect things that are relevant for your site? Do you want to better understand how to assess the potential risk posed by chemical contamination at your site? Come along to this ALGA workshop to get an overview of the use of human health risk assessment in contaminated land management. Human health risk assessment is used by regulators to generate guidelines and can also be used for site specific assessments to better understand what is going on at your site and how best to manage it. Getting to grips with the concepts involved helps you be sure that you are managing a site well.

Day 2 – SITE SPECIFIC RISK ASSESSMENT – THE BASICS

Day 2 of the workshop is for practitioners who are involved in contaminated land investigation and want to learn the basics of human health risk assessment for use in site specific assessments. The day will cover the risk assessment framework including problem formulation, toxicity assessment, exposure assessment, vapour intrusion and other types of modelling and risk characterization. The speakers will give you the basics in each area and provide links to international guidance so you can keep in touch with the latest information and practice your new skills. A great day of practical professional development is planned.

* Attendees cannot attend Day Two unless they attend Day One.
