Abstract

The Jundee Gold Camp, located in the northern Yandal Greenstone Belt of the Yilgarn Craton, is relatively understudied compared to the adjacent historic Wiluna Gold Camp. In 2018, Northern Star drilled an Australian-record-breaking 3,217 m drill hole at the Jundee Gold Camp’s Zodiac Discovery to complement a recently acquired 3D seismic dataset. In this study, CSIRO characterised the entire stratigraphy of this world-class gold camp by 3.2 km of continuous XRF, complemented by over 400 TIMA SEM mineral maps. The results build on 10+ years of quantitative automated mineralogy studies looking at alteration mineralogical signatures of Archaean gold camps in Western Australia, by incorporating high-spatial resolution XRF logging technology, which has provided an unprecedented view into the mine stratigraphy this drill hole intersects. This presentation will describe detailed lithogeochemistry of 3.2 km of stratigraphy, combined with alteration mineral phase mapping to identify the key paragenetic alteration relationships found at the Zodiac Discovery.

About The Speaker

Renee leads the Hydrothermal Footprints team in CSIRO Mineral Resources’ (CMR) Discovery Program and has extensive expertise working in gold systems. She joined CMR in 2015 from the minerals industry where she worked in gold mining and exploration across Western Australia. At CMR she applies SEM mineral mapping to gold and copper mineralising systems, with a focus on developing and implementing workflows for the exploration and mining industry.
