11.00AM – Cam Knight – Stand-up Comic
11.10AM – Kevin Jarvis – HiSeis – Seismic: the Future of Mining
11.50PM – Happy Hour – Q&A + Networking

Mining companies are increasingly using seismic data to image hard rock environments containing prospective mineral deposits. A seismic dataset samples the earth with more detail than any other geophysical dataset. The level of detail within a seismic volume provides insight into known mineralization and reveals the big picture geology associated with the mineral system. In this presentation Kevin will introduce the seismic method and show how it has the potential to revolutionize the mining industry.

Our guest speakers

Kevin Jarvis

Kevin Jarvis is a Senior Geophysicist and QI Advisor with HiSeis who has spent his career thinking about seismic. In the past 35 years he has worked with seismic at different scales from rock sample measurements in the lab to near surface groundwater studies to large scale seismic surveys for oil and gas and currently seismic surveys for mining. The applications range from resource evaluation to geotechnical to subsurface modelling. He has worked as an independent consultant and a technical specialist with contracting and operating companies. He continuously promotes the use of seismic as a key subsurface investigation tool.

Kevin’s university education is from Canada, most recently a PhD in seismology and rock physics from the University of British Columbia.
