Greg Maddocks will provide the first AIG technical talk of the year and in our new venue! Greg is a geochemist and specialises in understanding the risks associated with chemical mobility in rock masses. Greg will talk about how as a geoscience community we can better plan the testing needed to reliably predict the long term outcomes of developing tailings and waste rock dumps in the natural environment. We have seen the dramatic impact getting the geotechnical aspects of tailing storage facilities wrong, but the impact of element mobility on groundwater (be it acid mine drainage or other) can have even longer term impacts.
