Dr Andrew Heap is the Chief of the Resources Division at Geoscience Australia.
Dr Heap graduated 1 st glass Honours in Earth Sciences from the University of Auckland (New Zealand) in 1996 after which he completed his PhD at James Cook University in 2000.
Dr Heap has over 19 years of professional experience in leading pre-competitive geoscience research within the Australian Government. This includes more than 17 years as a senior leader in Geoscience Australia, with responsibility for energy and mineral resources, carbon capture and storage and marine geoscience programs.
Dr Heap has responsibility for building a national prospectus of energy and mineral exploration opportunities across Australia through the design and delivery of innovative scientific studies and technologies. He is currently leading the delivery of the Australian Government’s $100.5M Exploring for the Future program which aims to boost new resource discoveries in Northern Australia through the acquisition and analysis of new pre-competitive data and information.
