GSA Queensland Division technical talk for August

Speaker: Dr Aldo Van Heeswijck

The intracratonic Galilee and underlying Drummond basins reflect nearly continuous sediment infill from the Late Carboniferous to the Middle Triassic. Initial rifting was followed by passive subsidence and thermal subsidence. Minor unconformities reflect far-field tectonic events. Basin development ceased after a major inversion event in the Middle Triassic followed by deposition of the Eromanga Basin. Evidence is provided for basin development and provenance of infill. Mineral resource potential of the basins is briefly discussed. A new stratigraphic table is presented for discussion.

Meet from 5:15 pm, Talk commences 6:00 pm.
