Justin Legg immigrated to Christchurch in early 2010 to get out of the rat race and restore the work-life balance. In September, Christchurch was rocked by 7.1 Magnitude earthquake that set in motion another 4 seismic events and over 10,000 aftershocks. To date, the cost of this natural disaster is still be calculated, 185 lives lost, 35% of the population of Christchurch displaced and damage bill in excess of $40 Billion.

Living with Ruaumoko – the Maori God of Earthquakes proved to be an incredible journey, both professionally and personally. Rather than talk about tectonics and Richter scales, this talk will focus on what happened after the news crews left, and the role of a geologist in the community.
