In recent times we have been bombarded with stories on how machine learning and artificial intelligence will change how we do everything. The rapid growth of machine learning has been enabled by access to the ever-increasing capacity of modern computer processors and cloud computing. The mineral exploration and mining industry are no different and has started to embrace the new tools. For some it is already here, and for some it’s just another “black box”. So, what is Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence, how will it change what we do, and where/who are the experts?
- What is Machine Learning and what does it mean for the industry?
- Data collection & manipulation
- Automated drill-core logging and geological model building
- Exploration targeting
- Getting more from data and images
