Introduction to the JORC Code

The JORC Code sets out the requirements for public reporting of Exploration Results, Mineral Resources and Ore Reserves. However, its influence is much broader than this because it defines industry-standard terms and sets out standards, recommendations, and guidelines to assist geologists and other technical staff establish and maintain sound processes for many of their day-to-day activities. The Checklist of Assessment and Reporting Criteria (JORC Code Table 1) is a valuable tool for all technical staff working in exploration and mining, from new graduates to experienced veterans

Workshop 1 is a stand-alone module designed for anyone new to the JORC Code, including early career geologists and geoscience students, experienced geologists unfamiliar with the Code and non-technical mining industry professionals. The workshop provides an overview of the Code, describes the key elements of the Code, introduces the concept of the Competent Person, and references linkages to the Australian Securities Exchange listing rules. The workshop explains why the Code represents a reference manual for good practice and includes examples of public reports that illustrate how the JORC Code is applied.
