Seminar details

World expert Peter Pollard (PhD) Consulting Economic Geologist will present a course on Friday 23 June at the Zillmere Exploration Data Centre in Brisbane.

This seminar will provide an introduction to porphyry copper deposits with a focus on copper-gold mineralization in the Ertsberg and Ok Tedi districts of New Guinea. Discussion will be supplemented by rock samples illustrating the main rock types and alteration/mineralization styles.

 

 

Themes include:

  • Porphyry copper-gold systems – architecture and scale, alteration types and mineralization styles, hypogene and supergene processes
  • Geology of the Ertsberg and OK Tedi districts
  • Ok Tedi and Ertsberg district intrusive rocks – geochemistry and timing
  • Grasberg and Fubilan porphyry copper-gold deposits
  • Skarn copper-gold deposits in the Ertsberg (Kucing Liar, Big Gossan and Ertsberg East) and Ok Tedi (Gold Coast/Berlin, Townsville and Taranaki) districts

 

Profile: Dr Peter Pollard

Dr Peter Pollard is a Brisbane-based consulting economic geologist with over 25 years of experience in project generation, exploration and evaluation principally in copper, gold, tin-tungsten and rare metal deposits worldwide. He holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) and PhD degrees from James Cook University, Australia and is a member of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (Chartered Professional) and a Fellow of the Society of Economic Geologists.

Peter has worked extensively on some of the world’s major porphyry copper-gold deposits including in the Ertsberg and Ok Tedi districts (New Guinea), Escondida Norte (Chile), Oyu Tolgoi (Mongolia) and Ak Sug (Russia). He has also worked on porphyry exploration programs in Mongolia, Iran, Indonesia, Kazakhstan and Mexico.
