AIG Victoria Branch Geochemistry Workshop 2019

Vectoring within Central Victorian Gold Alteration Haloes Using Geochemical and Mineralogical Data

8 CPD hoursDr Dennis Arne MAIG RPGeo, PGeo (BC)

Date & Time

Thursday November 7th, 2019
Registration from 8:30am
9:00am start

Venue

Macedon Spa Resort
652 Black Forest Dr, Macedon VIC 3440

This 1-day workshop will involve a review of publicly available geochemical and mineralogical data from representative central Victorian gold deposits, including Bendigo, Ballarat, Fosterville, Castlemaine, Costerfield, Maldon and Wildwood. Emphasis will be placed on the identification of alteration zones surrounding the deposits and key geochemical and mineralogical indicators that can provide an indication of direction and distance towards mineralised structures. Participants will need to bring a laptop computer with them and download a trial version of ioGAS geochemical assessment software immediately before the workshop (trial version is time-limited and restricted to one installation per computer). A series of presentations introducing concepts and data sets will be interspersed with hands-on interpretation of integrated drill hole and surface rock chip data sets containing geochemical and mineralogical (quantitative XRD, hyperspectral, field staining) data from various central Victorian goldfields. A brief introduction to exploratory data analysis (EDA) using ioGAS will be provided.

This event is the pre-conference workshop prior to Victoria Mineral’s Round Up Conference – Friday 8th November, 2019. (Click here for more information on the conference or to register)

About the presenter

Dr Dennis Arne, Geochemist & Director, Telemark Geosciences.
Dennis has more than 35 years experience in geology and applied geochemistry globally with a particular emphasis on gold. He is currently working as an independent consulting geochemist under the banner of Telemark Geosciences and is an Associate Principal Consultant with CSA Global. He has overseen major regional geochemical exploration programs for gold in the Yukon and Nunavut in Canada, eastern Victoria, Suriname, Sudan and Laos. He was Director and Principal Consultant – Geochemistry of CSA Global Canada until 2017, General Manager and Principal Consultant – Geochemistry for Revelation Geoscience (now CSA Global Canada), Principal Consulting Geochemist with ioGlobal (now Reflex Geochemistry) and formerly Senior Geochemist with Geoscience Victoria. In the latter positions, he undertook an extensive lithogeochemical investigation of central Victorian gold deposits, undertook soil geochemical investigations over the Lockington gold discovery beneath the Murray Basin sediments, re-interpreted surface geochemical data from the Bendigo and adjacent maps sheets, and compiled hydrogeochemical gold data from CSIRO in Victoria. He is a member of the Australian Institute of Geoscientists, a Fellow and Vice President of the Association of Applied Geochemists, is a Registered Professional Geoscientist (Geochemistry) in Australia and a registered Professional Geoscientist in British Columbia.
