Victorian Gold Projects 1980-2010 – Peter McCarthy, Chairman Emeritus / Principal Mining Consultant AMC Consultants

Some projects developed into mines, many didn’t. All were difficult. Peter will recount some of his experiences with projects including Ballarat, Bendigo, Berringa, Walhalla, Fosterville, Tarnagulla, Cassilis, Blackwood, Stawell, Steiglitz, Gaffney’s Creek and Percydale. The content will be non-technical.

Peter started work in the Broken Hill mines 50 years ago in 1969 and then moved to Victoria in 1978 to manage the development of the mining museum at Sovereign Hill. He subsequently became involved in gold exploration in Victoria and in managing feasibility studies for gold projects in Australia, PNG, New Zealand, Indonesia and Turkey.

Peter led AMC Consultants in its international growth for nearly 30 years. He was chairman of Unity Mining Limited from 2005 to 2013 and is a past two-term President of the AusIMM. He has degrees in mining engineering and geoscience.
