This talk will present a brief review of Exploration Risk. Many analyses of risk in mineral exploration focus on probability of discovery pertaining to particular prospects. The argument will be presented that this approach to exploration is fine, but almost irrelevant. Instead, a sensible analysis of risk in mineral exploration requires an understanding of the real nature of exploration, and knowing this, a rational approach to exploration to maximise the chances of success will be outlined. Several studies that highlight the costs of this rational approach will be summarised.
