More large nuggets have come from the Poseidon Lead than any lead in the world.  Poseidon was the site of the last rush in Victoria in November 1906 and named after the winner of Melbourne Cup.  From less than 30 m of lead, nuggets amounting to 3,000 oz were uncovered, including individual nuggets of 703, 675, 502 and 306 oz.

About the Presenter

Brenton Shannon has revived alluvial gold mining at Poseidon, initially through the new Prospecting Licencing (PL) system before converting to a MIN.  Mining at Poseidon has uncovered a series of nuggets up to 100 oz, some are on display at the Ballarat Gold Museum.
