Indicated, Inferred, Imaginary: The Discovery of Busang – The “World’s Largest Gold Deposit”

Bre-X Minerals will “live in infamy” for falsely reporting the discovery of the largest gold deposit in history (75 Moz Au) between 1994 – 1997, in remote Bornean jungle. The unimaginable corporate fraud was only exposed following the “suicide” of its Exploration Manager.

This talk outlines the author’s involvement in the discovery of Busang in the late 1980s, the “boom to bust” frenzy that surrounded it , and its profound impacts on exploration and reporting.
