Summary:
The global demand for mineral resources has dramatically increased in the last 50 years. The challenge to keep pace with this demand is the driving force for innovation. It also drives mineral exploration in regions where mineral deposits are undercover. Novel approaches are required to detect these mineral deposits hidden beneath often hundreds of meters of thick cover material. This talk aims to debate concepts in the field of cover, landscape evolution and mineral exploration and present case studies and ideas on how to help to detect the distal footprint of mineral systems and deposits at depth.

Originally from Spain, Nacho is currently Principal Geochemist at CSIRO in Perth. He completed his Ph.D. at the University of Saskatchewan, Canada, focusing on sedimentary geochemistry. Nacho has worked in Industry, Academia, and Government organizations. He has conducted research and mineral exploration projects on five continents, including countries such as Canada, USA, Papua New Guinea, Australia, China, India, Spain, Poland, Norway, South Africa, Congo, and Brazil. At present, his primary research is on various aspects of trace element mobility in the continental crust, weathering processes, landscape evolution, mineral exploration undercover and geoarchaeology. He is the current chair of the Australian Regolith Geoscience Alliance (ARGA).
