Exploration Geochemistry: Module 1 – Data Acquisition, Quality Assessment and Management

15 & 16 September 2020

4:00 pm – 8:00 pm AEST

This comprehensive short course consists of three stand-alone modules each presented over two half days.  Participants in Modules 2 and 3 will be provided with a temporary license for ioGAS.

The course is designed for mineral exploration professionals and geology postgraduate students wanting continuing professional development in exploration and applied geochemistry.

The short courses involve lectures to introduce concepts but will be interspersed with short practical exercises to reinforce some of the strategies and methods.

Module 1 of the course would also be suitable for database professionals wishing to know more about the collection of geochemical data and the assessment of its quality, as well as for more seasoned geologists wishing to review recent advances in the collection, analysis, QA/QC and management of data.

The short course modules will be presented by Dr Dennis Arne, who has over 30 years’ experience in geology and applied geochemistry globally. Dennis has overseen regional geochemical exploration programs in the Yukon, Nunavut and northern Quebec in Canada, the USA, eastern Australia, Suriname, Sudan and Laos.

Professional Development hours per module:  7 Hours

(Participation in this event may contribute to meeting Continued

Professional Development (CPD) requirements of

professional institutes.)

Module 1 – Data Acquisition, Quality Assessment and Management

This module will cover Geochemical sampling strategies; sample preparation and analytical methods; QA/QC; data management; design, implementation and reporting geochemical data in compliance with current reporting codes. Practical exercises will be conducted using Microsoft ExcelTM.
