Our guest speaker

Ian Scrimgeour

Ian Scrimgeour has more than 25 years of experience working as a geologist in the Northern Territory in industry and government. He completed a PhD in geology at Adelaide Uni in 1994, on the metamorphic evolution of granulites in MacRobertson Land, Antarctica. His subsequent experience includes gold exploration in the Pine Creek area, geological mapping of the western desert regions of the NT and a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Leoben in Austria.

Ian is currently the Senior Executive Director of the Northern Territory Geological Survey, and is responsible for the Territory Government’s initiatives to grow the exploration sector, including the current Resourcing the Territory initiative. This includes pre-competitive geoscience programs, industry grants and programs to promote the Territory’s resource potential.
