Costerfield is a historic gold-antimony district that has been mined periodically since 1861. The Augusta mine (Mandalay Resources) has been in operation for the last ten years, and uses narrow vein mining techniques to extract sub-vertical veins. Development drive dimensions measure 1.8m wide by 2.8m high, providing the geology team with the constant challenge of keeping track of the ore as it is offset by faulting and branches into multiple veins.

This presentation will give a summary of the Augusta mine including the characteristics of the current ore body and mining methods.

About the Presenter

Michael Fenwick is a Mine Geologist at the Costerfield mine. He is relatively new to the mining industry and had a previous career as an accountant. He hung up his suit and tie and now spends most his time underground covered in mud.
