Geological Interpretation of Aeromagnetic Data – a Practical Approach

  • NExUS-Professional Development (NExUS-PD) is proud to be able to present this very highly regarded workshop from two highly respected industry professionals.
  • The specially designed two-day online workshop will introduce the fundamentals of geological interpretation of aeromagnetic data.
  • The workshop will feature lectures, practical activities and case studies all using integrated data sets.
  • Each day will feature 3 x 2hr sessions with exercises to be completed between the sessions and time allocated for extended discussions.
  • The format aims for open, transparent communication, with input from participants highly encouraged to share knowledge and experiences.

Day 1, Methodology of Aeromagnetic Interpretation – David Isles (Mon 2nd  Sept):

Sessions will include: Basic Principles, Physics and Concepts of Magnetics, Spatial Concepts, Survey Planning, Processing and Presentation of Data, Anomalies, RTP and Analytical Signal, Modelling and Inversion, Introduction to Golden Dyke Prospect Case Study

Day 2, Geological Interpretation and Structure – Leigh Rankin (Tues 3rd Sept):

Sessions will include: Golden Dyke Prospect Case Study, Magnetisation in Rocks, Charters Towers Case Study, Structures in Magnetics, Widgiemooltha Case Study, Unusual Magnetisation and Final Q+A session.

Presented by:

Dr. David Isles

Dr. David Isles has over 40 years of mineral exploration experience across a range of commodities including gold, base metals, diamonds and iron ore in Australia, Africa, Canada, India, the Middle East and Southeast Asia. David worked with BHP Minerals and airborne contractor World Geoscience Corporation, specialising in the interpretation of aeromagnetics. Since 1993, he has been a specialist independent consultant to a range of companies and maintains substantial involvement with R&D and training activities. He is currently an exploration consultant with Southern Geoscience and is a member of the ASEG and AIG

Leigh Rankin

Leigh Rankin worked with the Geological Survey of South Australian as a field geologist, and subsequently joined World Geoscience Corp as a senior geologist, where he was involved with major geological projects in India and South America. In 1997, Leigh formed an independent consultancy (Geointerp) specialising in the integration of structural geology and interpretation of geophysical data for mineral and hydrocarbon exploration, with involvement in programs in over 35 countries. He is a member of the AIG, SEG and GSA.
