Overview

This workshop will present fundamental considerations and understandings in preparing information as inputs for completing a mineral resource estimate. It is designed to provide guidance on addressing the key issues associated with data inputs to grade estimates and grade estimation tasks.

Workshop outline

The workshop is presented in six modules:

  • Introduction and setting the scene (tasks required for grade estimation)
  • Drillhole samples (drill method, collection, representativeness)
  • Chemical analysis (results, accommodating anomalies)
  • Geological interpretation (components, capture methods, defining domains)
  • Compositing (purpose, nominal length, methodologies, residual treatment)
  • Statistical analysis (descriptive statistics, correlation, interpreting results)

Group interaction and exercises are used to illustrate and reinforce workshop concepts.

Prerequisites

The workshop assumes that participants have a working knowledge of geological data gathering processes and a basic understanding of mineral resource estimation steps. A basic understanding of statistics and geostatistics is an advantage. The course is not mining software specific.

Who should attend

Geologists who have taken or want to take up roles with a focus on resource estimation.

Fee inclusions

The workshop cost includes a bound, full-colour workshop manual, lunch, and refreshments.

Presenter biography

Alex’s expertise as a geologist is in geological modelling, resource estimation, statistics, and geostatistics as well as technical audits, reviews, and due diligence. His experience includes exploration, mining, technical support, and consulting across a variety of metal commodities and geological settings.
