Inaugural Presentation

Gregg Morrison

Gregg was educated in New Zealand and Canada and spent 10 years as Director Gold Research, James Cook University from 1981 to 1991 where he supervised graduate students and was active in the M.Sc. course. He was the leader of 3 AMIRA-funded research projects on North Queensland gold, epithermal gold in Queensland and Intrusion-Related Mineral Systems of eastern Australia. He then established Klondike Exploration Services where he consults in Mineral Exploration and Mining geology specialising in ore controls, geological interpretation, hydrothermal system geometry, and training for epithermal, porphyry, IRGS and orogenic systems.

He has consulted to a virtual Who’s-Who of world mining companies in project generation and evaluation and worked on dozens of major ore systems globally including: Mt Wright, Ravenswood, Mt Carlton, Pajingo, Mt Leyshon, Kidston, Mt Cannindah, Mt Rawdon, Cracow, Osborne, North Parkes, Cadia, Copper Hill, Mineral Hill, Temor, The Granites district, Callie, Hedges/Boddington, Gruyere in Australia and deposits in SE Asia, Mongolia, China, Turkey, Siberia and South America.

Updated Genetic Models for Gold Deposits in northeast Queensland

Gregg Morrison will speak on the current exploration boom and the time lapse since the last significant discovery in NQ has prompted a review of the concepts driving gold exploration here. The latest SEG publication on the geology of major gold deposits in the world has also stimulated consolidation of some and revision of other ideas that have driven my physical/virtual global roaming over the last 50 years. The talk will summarise our current knowledge of north Queensland gold mineral systems and describe newer models from elsewhere that have some currency here.
