SA AIG Geopub – July 2023

Double Header night! Two speakers – twice the fun!

Plus, IOCG workshop at the core library on Friday 7th July

First Speaker

Presenter: Stacey Curtis. Geologist, Copper Search Ltd.

Are there IOCGs outside of the Olympic Domain? Geology and IOCG exploration in the Peake and Denison inliers

The Talk

The Peake and Denison Inliers in the northern Gawler Craton are located outside the Iron-Oxide-Copper-Gold endowed Olympic Domain, however the area preserves evidence of a spectrum of IOCG alteration and mineralisation styles. And most importantly, the rocks crop out so geologists can do proper field mapping! This talk will give a snapshot of the geology of the Peake and Denison Inliers and ways Copper Search is exploring for IOCGs there.

About the Speaker

Stacey is a geologist with Copper Search Ltd. Prior to Copper Search she was a geologist with the Department for Energy and Mining where she reported on her numerous investigations into geology and mineralisation styles across the Gawler Craton, the Curnamona and the Delamarian.

Second Speaker

Presenter: Dr Tobias Schlegel, Senior Research Scientist, CSIRO Mineral Resources

IOCG. It’s all about the Zonation. Comparing IOCG mineralisation among Starra, Ernest Henry and Prominent Hill.

About the Speaker

Tobias is a Senior Research Scientist in the Ore Deposit Petrology Team and works on IOCG deposits in the Cloncurry and Olympic IOCG provinces. His research integrates field studies and laboratory work to investigate the formation of ore deposits. His current focus is on applied mineralogy, and he is especially interested in the accurate recognition of gradients in prospect-scale modal mineralogy datasets that can guide mineral exploration towards areas with higher Cu–Au grades. Tobias enjoys extended bush walks and mountain hikes, especially if the route allows a side trip for refreshment.

For Geologists, geophysicists and students – everyone is welcome!

Geopub and Workshop are Free events (but please register your details for the Workshop on Friday).

Thanks to Copper Search Ltd for sponsoring the night.
