SMEDG Meeting – Dec 2022

Date & Time

Thursday December 8, 2022 at 5.30 pm for 6.00 pm

Venue

Club York, 95-99 York St, Sydney

As usual the talk will be followed by dinner at either the Zabou Bistro or Primi Italian, both in the Club.
& Broadcast via ZOOM

The meeting is on this Thursday, and we encourage you to attend what should be an very informative and interesting talk. Impressions from a site visit by myself earlier this year highlighted the high quality of the expertise and knowledge that has gone into developing this new model for the mineralisation at the Twin Hills Gold Project in the Drummond Basin of Queensland.

Presenter

Mark Lindsay, Chief Geologist, GBM Resources

Mark Lindsay is a passionate geologist with more than 20 years exploration experience across numerous mineral deposit types, geological terranes, and several countries. He has held senior roles with Oxiana in Laos, Newmont in PNG, and Resolute in Queensland.

Mark has been involved in the discovery and / or definition of 11 ore bodies to date and would like to make the next discovery in North Queensland.

Mark holds a PhD in Metalliferous Economic Geology from James Cook University and is a Fellow of the Society of Economic Geologists.

Mark is currently Chief Geologist for GBM Resources.

Talk Title

Unravelling the 309 and Lone Sister gold deposits

Talk Synopsis:

The 309 and Lone Sister low sulphidation epithermal gold deposits that comprise GBM’s Twin Hills Project were discovered in 1987 by Metana Minerals with limited production of ~ 23 koz Au in 2006/07 by BMA Gold. At 309, previous exploration and mining was hampered by a lack of understanding of the controls and style of mineralisation and the relationship between gold mineralisation and the host rocks, whilst consideration of both 309 and Lone Sister as ore feed for distant mines also prevented recognition of system size.

This talk presents a new model for mineralisation at the 309 deposit including describing the geological observations and methods used to build the model. The talk also provides an overview of GBM’s new resource estimates and how viewing the deposits without high grade constraints significantly changed the nature of the project.
