SOFT COVER: OK TEDI MINING – 50th Anniversary Commemorative Volume

In 2018 Ok Tedi celebrated the 50th anniversary of the discovery of the Ok Tedi porphyry copper-gold deposit in Papua New Guinea. To commemorate the anniversary, Ok Tedi Mining, in collaboration with your AIG are publishing an anniversary volume. Ok Tedi has compiled over 30 articles and many historical photographs written and collected by geologists, surveyors, field technicians, lawyers, pilots and other professionals who were there and have first-hand experience.

The volume starts with the first recordings of gold in the Fly River by no other than Lawrence Hargrave, subsequent follow up of his report by Kennecott to find the skarn outcrops in upper tributaries of Ok Tedi, discovery drilling on Mt Fubilan, and all the political shenanigans leading up to development of the mine in 1983. The volume also documents exploration activities that occurred concurrently with mining leading up to the discovery in 1990 of the nearby Townsville deposit and in 2017 the New York breccia.
